With the most recent sell-off in global equities, has this become a market that simply does not know what to do? One never knows when a Presidential tweet is going to move the markets, nor when a central banker will make a new statement. This leaves the markets on edge and with the former, markets are clinging to hope that the President will announce a trade deal with China and that central bankers will become more dovish. On the other hand, these markets may be selling off because they are finally waking up to reality – and that reality is not a pretty picture. There is a slowing global economy and markets are supposed to reflect as much. Therefore we have a torn market – on one hand, some participants are clinging to hope, which is not a strategy nor sound financial advice, and on the other, people who are waking up to reality. Who wins out will make for interesting conversation, so stay tuned!
