A truly disgusting and disgraceful performance was on display today during the testimony of Attorney General William Barr before the House Judiciary Committee. This cuts down both political parties, but this afternoon it was the Democrats’ turn to make a mockery and a spectacle out of our system. On nearly every occasion that the AG was asked a question by a Democratic member of the committee, Mr. Barr was rudely and quickly interrupted when attempting to answer the question. The rehearsed line by the Dems was, “it’s my time,” or I’m reclaiming my time,” as they interrupted. Well isn’t it also AG Barr’s time too? In fact, isn’t the purpose of the hearing to hear what AG Barr has to say on a number of issues pertaining to the Department of Justice? Yes, of course! If the Dems just want to grandstand, then pick a news outlet, pick a reporter, pick your favorite social media outlet and grandstand. But when you have a member of the Administration before you, or anyone else for that matter, then be respectful and civil. And above all else, ask serious questions that keep people in positions of power in check and allow them to answer the questions. Our republic is based on an informed citizenry. When its citizens do not have the information, then how can we be expected to make the right decisions? We could go on about this, but we digress. This was an utter disgrace.

Of course another utter disgrace pertains to the conclusion of the FOMC meeting tomorrow where the Fed will likely keep rates at all-time lows and announce that they will continue to do “whatever it takes,” which has become their new de facto motto. In addition, the Fed announced that their alphabet soup of emergency facilities will be extended through the end of this year. The previous expiry was for the end of September, but as we stated during yesterday’s podcast, this is the “Week of More!” Therefore, we should not be surprised by this decision. We could continue on this as well, but we digress for now. Where to even begin?…We have alleged sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein committing suicide while in a maximum security prison. Of course the suicide remains in question. This is likely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to many individuals soon to be prosecuted for sex trafficking and the like. The figures in Epstein’s social circle consists of politicians, business executives, and celebrities. It is not a far stretch to imagine that a few members of “high society” are also somehow involved. However, everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Clearly, something is amiss when a high-profile inmate commits suicide, is killed, etc… The question is, who benefits from his death? It is in this question that answers will be found. In global markets, we continue to witness a sell-off in equities, a flight to “safe-have” government bonds, and precious metals. Global yields continue to make multi-year lows and even all-time lows depending on the nation and the duration. The spread between the 10 and 2 year US Treasury is at its tightest spread in years and is nearly inverted. The 3 month and 10 year has been inverted for some time, yet, once the 10 and 2 year inverts, it’s basically a foregone conclusion that the end of this record-breaking expansion is drawing near. Protests continue in Hong Kong, leading authorities to shut down all out going air travel. This will be the 11th week of protests amid growing concerns that mainland China is seeking to exert more control over Hong Kong. This simply adds to the global uncertainty and may serve as another piece on the geopolitical chessboard, especially regarding the US-China trade war. Also, there was a surprise upset in the Argentinian elections – the market sold off 48% and the peso is trading at record lows against the US dollar. All corners of the globe are on edge and the bigger the bubble, the less the pressure that is needed to cause its bursting. With the price of gold and silver on a solid streak as of late, is this a sign of more upside to come for the precious metals? On top of this, we have witnessed some large money managers come out with strong cases for higher gold prices. The likes of Ray Dalio, Paul Tudor Jones, Jeffrey Gundlach, and Peter Schiff to mention a few. What do these gentlemen know that the markets do not? Is it income inequality and the potential subsequent political fallout? Is it the expectation of more easy money and further rounds of global QE that may spark high inflation? Perhaps it’s a combination thereof, but regardless of which may be the case, it’s always prudent to be diversified, and in a world of growing uncertainty and a global economy awash in debt, owning some precious metals might not be a bad idea. In other news, get ready for the circus in DC as former Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller is set to testify next week. Enjoy the show! #EndTheFed #WakeUpAmerica #Peace

Special Prosecutor Bob Mueller made his first public statements regarding his report. By his own remarks, he is hoping that this will be his only statement – implying that he does not want to testify before Congress. Mueller did not make any breaking news. He concluded along with AG Barr that the President was not exonerated. He also went further to outline the DOJ policy that a sitting US President cannot be charged with a crime. Therefore, the decision becomes a political one for Congress – this is referring to the Impeachment process. This statement will be dissected over the coming days and both sides of the political aisle will dig in deeper. Just remember that he investigators are now under investigation and that Mueller and Barr are in agreement with the final conclusion(s).

It’s not enough that we’ve been in the Middle East going on two decades. It’s not enough that we’re aggressively meddling in Venezuela. Now, we have to deal with more talks and actions pertaining to Iran. While the President calls it fake news, there is a story out from The New York Times, discussing possible plans of sending 120,000 US troops to the region to deter any kind of Iranian action. The American empire is in full-swing and by the way, we can’t afford it. Also, AG Bill Barr, has assigned the US Attorney from Connecticut, the task of investigating the investigators – the genesis of the Trump-Russia conspiracy investigation.

We heard some reports over the previous weeks that there was supposed to be a report coming out specifically regarding former FBI Director, James Comey. However, while the report was thought to be released this week, it was not. Yet, just yesterday evening, Jim Comey was back in the news giving an extensive interview with CNN. Is this just a coincidence that Comey was back in the spotlight or is he trying to get ahead of the story and tell his side? Lastly, a follow up with US/China trade talks and yes, tariffs have been imposed on Chinese goods at a higher rate. What happens next week or over the weekend is anyone’s guess as the Tweeter-in-Chief is capable of anything. #HappyMother’sDay

Are the President’s words from his State of the Union address starting to come true? If so, will this provide the right amount of political cover for the Pres to blame a slowing economy/stock market on the Dems, the Fed, and China? Recall, it was endless wars, political divisiveness, and partisan investigations that Trump mentioned back in February that could derail the economy. Since then he’s added to the mix: the Fed, and now with trade talks in flux, he can blame China. Also, the House Judiciary Committee has voted along party lines, to hold AG Barr in contempt of Congress. A full vote will then be taken up before Congress.

The Dems are grasping at air as the tables are turning as the Trump Admin is set to investigate the investigators. The Dems know exactly where this is headed and they don’t like it – so talks of impeachment are back in the news. Meanwhile, new comments from US trade reps signal that tariffs will be increased on Chinese products this week – continuing the global market sell-off.

So the Dems are at it again, calling the AG a criminal for “lying to Congress” and now the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jerry Nadler, is giving the AG a deadline to release the entire un-redacted Mueller report or face the possibility of being held in contempt of Congress. Ain’t it a great time to be alive?! – oh the politics! We also discuss the jobs report that blew through expectations, but upon a deeper look, things don’t look so great. Are we living in a fool’s economic paradise?

The circus is in town and it ain’t leaving any time soon. The AG was up on Capitol Hill providing testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the findings of the Mueller investigation. Well it was a complete partisan show where the Republicans were asking structural questions regarding election interference; meanwhile, the Dems were all about obstruction of justice. The Dems are clinging to hope that they can hurt the President when it comes to obstruction of justice – it won’t work. Also, a brief update to yesterday’s discussion surrounding the Fed and the economy.
