Former Secretary of Defense and US Marine Corps General, James Mattis, wrote a scathing response to President Trump’s recent remarks about potentially utilizing the US military across the country in response to the nationwide protests. Highlighting the President’s lack of leadership and his default mode of sowing division were the hallmarks of the General’s article. However, Mattis also struck the chord of unity and calling on our better selves to rise above the division and pettiness and reminding us of our American principles and values. It was a message that was needed.
